Lahaina
At one time, during the height of the whaling industry, Lahaina Town was the Capital of Hawaii. It still retains some of the atmosphere from the raucous days when the town was filled with whalers. The Pioneer Inn still has harpoons and interesting artifacts left over from the whaling days and is a fun place to hang out, enjoy the music and watch the sport fishing charter boats return with their catch.
Huge marlin are occasionally seen at the weigh station and attract crowds. This is also a fun place to watch the sunset and local surfers playing in the waves off the harbor entrance. There are lots of fine restaurants on Front Street with decks over the water, serving great seafood and other local cuisine.
