New Mexico is filled with natural wonders, from natural hot springs high in the mountains to the world’s largest deposit of gypsum sand. Explore undeveloped caves, walk lava flows and stare in awe at dazzling rock formations.
Southeast Region: Welcome to one of the most diverse regions of New Mexico. Here you can find ancient symbols at Three Rivers Petroglyph National Recreation Site, the Space Center/International Space Hall of Fame, and some of the largest caves in the world at Carlsbad Caverns National Park. Southeast NM is also home to White Sands National Monument near Alamogordo and world-famous skiing and horse racing in Ruidoso.
The Carlsbad Caverns contain gigantic subterranean chambers and formations and are home to 300,000 Mexican free-tail bats who reside in the Caverns from the spring until October.
